Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Kid Talk’s program and therapy services unique?

  • Kid Talk is a private therapist owned clinic that strives to provide quality therapy services in a fun and safe environment.  We consider our patients and staff “family” and want Kid Talk to be a place everyone looks forward to going each week!  Therapists establish relationships and collaborate with caregivers to ensure we are meeting their needs and expectations throughout the therapy process.  Our goal is to educate parents, empower them to get involved in therapy, and provide home programming ideas to promote more rapid progress as well as generalization of skills outside of the therapy setting.  Our passionate and highly trained staff truly enjoy working with children and watching them grow throughout their time at Kid Talk!

What are your clinic hours?

Kid Talk clinics are open Monday-Thursday from 8:00am-6:30pm

Will our health insurance cover an evaluation and therapy services?

We accept all major insurance plans including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Health Partners, Medica, United Health Care, Cigna, UMR, Surest, Blue Advantage, UCare, Aetna (First Health Network only), Meritain Health, and Medical Assistance.  Each individual policy is different so please contact your insurance company to obtain the following information and to verify your benefits:

  1. Is Kid Talk an in-network provider?
  2. Do I need a prior authorization for an evaluation and/or therapy
  3. Does my plan have visit limits for speech or occupational therapy?  If so, is it an individual or combined limit?
  4. Be sure to request and write down the name of the insurance representative that you speak with when verifying your benefits so that if any future issues arise, you have a contact to refer to

Do I need a doctor’s order to initiate services?

Yes, we require a doctor’s order prior to scheduling an evaluation at Kid Talk.  Your physician can fax the order to Kid Talk at 952-443-9804

What are Kid Talk’s attendance expectations?

We are committed to providing consistent quality services to our clients and expect that same commitment from the families we serve.  Your child will make the most progress in therapy with prompt and consistent attendance.  Families that choose to receive services for their child at Kid Talk must adhere to our attendance policy and service agreement.  Each family will be allowed a pro-rated number of cancellations per calendar year, per discipline, for instances when you are NOT able to reschedule your child’s appointment.  Once your allowed cancellations are used, families must reschedule their cancelled sessions within ninety days.

How often will my child have to come for therapy?

After the initial evaluation, the therapist will determine and recommend the frequency of therapy for your child.  Most patients come 1-2x per week based on their need.  We have a set recurring schedule which means that families will have therapy on the same day(s)/times each week.  This system eliminates the need to be constantly scheduling additional future appointments and helps keep schedules consistent to ensure continuity of care.

How long are the therapy sessions?

Occupational therapy sessions are 45-60 minutes in length and speech therapy sessions are 30 minutes.

Can I be present in my child's sessions?

YES!!! Parents and caregivers are always welcome and encouraged to sit in on therapy sessions to learn how to facilitate therapeutic activities at home and how to best support their child through the therapy process.

Will my child work with the same therapist each week?

Your child will have a dedicated therapist(s) for their weekly appointments.  However, if a therapist is out of the office or you need to reschedule an appointment, your child may see a different therapist occasionally.  This is a great opportunity for your child to demonstrate flexibility and to learn new/different therapy techniques from another therapist!

Do you provide teletherapy services?

No, we believe that children benefit the most from an in-person therapy model that allows us to use hands on techniques and establish close interpersonal relationships

Do you provide group therapy sessions?

No, Kid Talk does not provide group therapy services.
